Lab Policies

Printing

Free Printing is only allowed for user-created materials for CHASS courses, CHASS course syllabi, resumes and course schedules

Only user-created materials required for a CHASS course, CHASS course syllabi, resumes and course schedules may be printed in either of the labs. Only one copy of any document may be printed on the free printer. If you need copies, use the Wolfcopy printers. Printing for non-CHASS courses, non user-created documents, printing for organizations, or any other personal documents is available on the Wolfcopy Printers.

No alternative paper

Printing is only allowed on white 8.5x11" letter-sized paper and 8.5x14" legal-sized paper; we do not allow our printers to process any alternate types of paper. For legal size paper, ask the lab assistants for assistance.

Due to past and continuing excesses and high-volume usage, noncompliance with these rules will result in more restrictive printing policies.

Wolfcopy Printers

In addition to the free printer there is a black/white Wolfcopy printer in both Laundry and Withers lab. A color Wolfcopy printer is located in Laundry. Both of these printers require print quota. There are no restrictions on what can be printed or the number of copies on these printers, just make sure to have enough print quota. Your current balance can be obtained here.

General Lab Policies

Food and Drinks

Students can have food and drink in the lab, but the items must be covered. Please be sure to clean your workspace before leaving the lab.

Installation of Software

The installation of software is strictly prohibited. We have gone to a lot of trouble to configure these machines and provide our users with as wide an array of software as we can afford. The installation of certain programs can conflict with our own networking software and render the computer unusable by other students. Anyone caught installing outside software will be ejected from the labs, and a permanent ban will be considered.

Where to Save Your Work

We ask that our users save their work to either removable media, such as a USB flash drive, or to your Unity/AFS account space (K: drive). User files are deleted automatically once you log off. If you save anything to the desktop it will be gone the next time you log in!

Media Copying

Cassette Tapes
  • You must be currently enrolled in the class
  • You must have purchased the textbook
  • You can copy only 1 tape per language, per day
  • You have to provide your own tapes, up to 2, and use the same 2 for the whole semester
Video Tape Copying
  • Permission from the publisher prior to request
  • Provide blank media
  • Copy requests should be left with the lab assistant on duty in LAU 214, and can take up to 48 hours to complete, depending on the work load.
VHS Conversion

We can convert PAL videos to NTSC and vice-versa at the lab. Publisher permission is required for conversions, and the policies are the same as for making other media copies(see above).

Note: VHS to DVD conversion requires blank media and publishers permission prior to request.

DVD Copying / Converting

At this time any duplication or conversion of DVDs will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the managing director with these requests.

Equipment Checkout

The lab has digital cameras, voice recorders, and tape recorders that can be checked out. Most equipment can be checked out for up to one week at a time unless other arrangements are made.

Please see the lab assistant on duty in 214 Laundry for more information.
